Mersin / Hatay

Hatay: The appealing nature and the reason for many people migrating to this region throughout history are the appropriate climate conditions, productive and fertile lands. Besides these two facts another important characteristic of the region is its being at the intersection point of the road which connects Anatolia to Syria and Palestine over Çukurova. In addition, the most convenient ports for suitable routes to Mediterranean from Mesopotamia are also located in this region. With its current faith tourism centres, ancient cities and beautiful plateaus, the province of Hatay has a high potential for tourism.

Mersin: Mersin is an important harbour city on the East Mediterranean shore.  It offers many activities for travellers, with streets overshadowed by palms, a city park, modern hotels, ruins near the city and numberous beaches. The city is remembered in history by Saint Paul (he is from Tarsus) and with areas between Alanya and Mersin that was given from Mark Antuanious as a marriage gift to Cleopatra.

Mersin is important for Turkey's economy and Turkey's largest seaport is located there. Mersin's nickname within Turkey is "Pearl of the Mediterranean" and the city hosted the 2013 Mediterranean Games.
